ISLAMIC INFORMATION CENTRE KENYA is a resource centre set up majorly for the needs of New Muslims as regards to providing basic Islamic courses and further as a platform to generate and moderate interactive inter-faith dialogue.
Since its inception, the centre has been holding free Introduction to Islam classes daily, separately for both men and women. At the same time, the centre has hosted several comparative religion training events geared towards producing informed propagators for subsequent outdoor activities meant to spread the true message of Islam. The aforementioned activities have been aptly named “Street Da’wah” since they mainly involve having the trained individuals have one on one dialogue on the streets with persons of different faiths.
The main reason behind the formation of the centre was to fill an eminent gap which was getting wider as people kept converting to Islam while there was no facility within Mombasa to accommodate for their learning needs.
There is a boarding facility, Majlis Al-Ma’arif in Kikambala which has a vibrant New Muslim section (Darul Arqam), but not all converts are in a position to join a boarding facility. We have the working class and family types who find it more convenient and suitable to attend day or evening classes and head back home.
For quite some time too, and based on prior experiences, there was a dire need to set up a dedicated centre to co-ordinate planned Da’wah activities and make it easier for converts to access much-needed basic or even advanced Islamic knowledge.
The centre is strategically located at Masjid Qubah, Majengo and its close proximity to the CBD makes it very accessible from any point within Mombasa County.
Mission :
- To offer free learning facilities tailored along the lines of guiding new Muslims towards understanding Islam.
Vision :
- To be the “to-go-to” Centre in matters pertaining to New Muslims and be a reliable source point of Islamic Information while encouraging interactive inter- faith dialogues.
Into the future….
In the next few years, IICK aims to be the reliable source point of Islamic information and a well-established revert centre.
We hope, in Sha Allah, to provide all services a New Muslim needs especially for those who are chased away from their homes. IICK is currently providing shelter for some especially the women as they either proceed with their studies or work placement.
The more we take and enrol reverts at Majlisul Al-maarif Islamiyyah Kikambala the greater number we will have after a year or two graduating from the facility with probably nowhere to go.
IICK is putting in place a system where they will be absorbed into, in a way that they get job placement more easily as per their skills and requirements.
As far as IICK revert courses go, we hope to introduce online courses which will definitely take IICK global. We are also working on acquiring a twin, 3-storey residential property as part of our waqf (endowment). Images below:
