Our Centre

IICK the “After Shahada” Centre.

As is the norm in most instances of people converting, there is a need to have a facility that is ready and well equipped to take on the New Muslims and guide them in their initial steps in Islam.

At IICK, any New Muslim who comes is taken through steps which ensure that the transition is easier and smoother in a way that they feel encouraged to take more courageous steps in learning Islam.

Our guidance and counselling section takes over once a New Muslim visits the centre in a bid to establish and formulate the best way they can be assisted. This is because most New Muslims, as experience has proven over and over again, are either low income earners or students who at that particular point of converting are still under their parents’ care.

The trauma of having their families turn against them all because of Islam is something that hits them very hard. As such, counselling at this point is very crucial in assisting the New Muslim to cope with such challenges.

The centre also determines from the onset whether the individual is ready to join a boarding facility, upon which the centre sponsors them to Majlis Al-Ma’arif. The centre has forty (50) students at Majlis Al-Ma’arif. The cost at point of enrolment per student is Ksh 15,000 which caters for one-year tuition and boarding requirements and a further Ksh. 200 every month for upkeep.

On other occasions we encourage them to set time daily for our free Introduction to Islam course which initially runs for 6 months after which they will be granted certificates of participation as they proceed to an advanced course. Throughout the 6 months, consequent crash courses in Salaah are carried out to ensure those who join while the course is on-going get to benefit as well.

All in all IICK tries to play the role of the ultimate “After Shahada” centre by providing areas where people who have converted at the centre take their initial bath and also organizes processes like circumcisions in cases where the individual hasn’t undergone such.

Our aim is to make them feel welcome and appreciated in Islam so that they find it much easier to pursue beneficial knowledge at the centre. In this regard, the centre has rented an apartment to house revert sisters facing rejection and the plan, In sha Allah is to have the same for the brothers.
